It’s been a little bit since we’ve talked for The Buzz, and it seems that this was a bit of a slow week to pick back up, but I’m excited to be back here with you all this week!
As you all know, I’m a HUGE fan of Sex and the City and season two of its spin off And Just Like That had its finale yesterday with a very familiar face (Spoiler Alert: Samantha)!. We also got word this week ahead of the season finale that the series has been renewed for a third season!
The nostalgia that comes from And Just Like That is unmatchable and it seems like a lot of entertainers are holding onto that nostalgia right now.
News dropped this week that an adaptation based on S.E. Hinton’s 1967 book The Outsiders and its accompanying 1983 film is headed to Broadway early next year!
No casting announcements have been made, but previews for the show will begin on March 16th, 2024 and will officially open at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on April 11th, 2023.
This book was such a large part of my childhood – so much so that I coaxed my dad into taking me to Rhode Island Comic Con so I could meet Ralph Maccio – so I am super excited to see this news.
I don’t know exactly how the plot will translate onto the stage, much like what I expressed with the Back to the Future Musical, but I’m very excited to see what the creative team comes up with.
Check out the official Broadway show’s website here, and if you’d like a blast of nostalgia, you can stream the film on MAX or on Amazon Prime.
Now, for all you movie lovers, Barbie is going to be hitting the IMAX theaters for one week only starting on September 22nd at select locations!
If you remember, Oppenheimer populated most, if not all, of the IMAX theaters when the two films opened in July, so now Barbie is taking the reins AND you’ll also be able to see new, never before seen post-credits footage at the IMAX screenings!
And lastly, Sunday, August 27th is National Cinema Day!
In celebration, you can get $4 tickets for movies AND select theaters are also doing a $4 small popcorn and soft drink combo as well!
These $4 tickets include recent releases like Oppenheimer (in IMAX!), Barbie, Blue Beetle, and more! Check out the promo graphic below from Deadline.
See you back here next week for another edition of The Buzz!
