Jordyn’s Buzz – August 9th, 2024

Jordyn’s Buzz – August 9th, 2024

It was another whirlwind of a week in Hollywood so let’s start off by looking at the Olympics.

As of this morning, the US is currently in the lead for the most medals won with a total of 103. China is in second place with 74 medals and France is in third with 54.

One of my favorite moments – if not my favorite moment – of the 2024 Olympics took place earlier this week when Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles, and Rebeca Andrade won bronze, silver, and gold on the individual floor final in women’s gymnastics. These photos below are my favorite moments caught on camera from the Games.

The Closing Ceremony of the Games happens this Sunday, August 11th, and it will air on NBC and be available for streaming on Peacock, NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com, the NBC app, and NBC Olympics app.

If you’re looking for a way to celebrate, Dairy Twist in Pembroke is running a fun promotion called Stuff Your Stanley with Ice Cream on Sunday from 11:30am–9pm and if you bring your Stanley, Yeti, etc. brand tumbler, you can get 4 scoops of ice cream for $10! It can be one flavor or 4 different flavors, and you can get soft serve too!

These last couple weeks have opened doors for a new power couple to be on the forefront of the news. Everywhere I turned this week, there were Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

Both of these two have been lending each other unending support, but let’s start with Ryan.

Deadpool & Wolverine is still doing extremely well in the box office, and I’d say about 80% of the articles that have come out on entertainment sites this week have been about that film.

Here were some of my favorite Deadpool & Wolverine stores:

Ryan and his co-star Hugh Jackman spoke about how they would want to team up in a Spiderman movie.

The original plan for the movie was to create an intentionally bad fake movie called Alpha Cop that would play in theaters for about five minutes before Deadpool started. Fans would have no idea that the film they had purchased tickets for was Deadpool. Ultimately though, they decided not to go this route out of fear of the plan getting leaked.

Green Day was performing this week and the band’s drummer and bassist dressed up as Deadpool and Wolverine, surprising Billie Joe Armstrong, the band’s lead singer, on stage. Check out the video below.

As for Blake, her new film It Ends With Us based off of Colleen Hoover’s novel is out in theaters today. Much like how Blake appeared in Deadpool and lended support there, word on the street is that Ryan did the same for Blake in this film, even writing a scene in the movie.

As for other movies, the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet has been slated for a Christmas day theatrical release, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are looking to develop a Hulk Hogan film, and Robert Pattinson and Zendaya may be starring in an upcoming romance film together.

Usher also has a film coming out called Usher: Rendezvous in Paris which will be in theaters from September 12th – September 15th. Check out the trailer below.

Funnily enough, 2024 has been the year of unique popcorn buckets for big budget films. Deadpool & Wolverine did it for their July release, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which comes out next month, is the newest film to release a special popcorn bucket. Check them both out below.

For TV, there’s a new vampire rom-com in the works at CBS from the creators of Ghosts called Eternally Yours. Check out this article for more info.

If you were a fan of Bones, click here to read a fun story about how different the show could’ve been! Not only did the show originally have a different name, but one of the most beloved main characters almost wasn’t a main character at all.

The fan favorite show The White Lotus is returning for a third season in 2025 and will be set in Thailand! Check out the teaser they dropped on Instagram.

Lastly, the Hulu series Tell Me Lies is coming back for season 2 on September 4th. Tell Me Lies follows Lucy and Stephen, two young adults entwined in a very toxic relationship. It’s based off of the PHENOMENAL novel of the same name by Carola Lovering. The show is definitely different from the novel, but the book was my favorite read so far of 2024, so if you’re in need of a good book, check this one out! And once you do, check out the Hulu series. I’ve linked the season 2 trailer below.

As for other books that are being developed for the big and small screens, People We Meet on Vacation, based on the terrific novel by Emily Henry, officially has its two main characters casted. Emily Bader will be playing Poppy and Tom Blyth will be playing Alex.

Henry’s other novel Happy Place officially has a showrunner now! Bridgerton’s Leila Cohan will serve as the showrunner and co-writer on the Netflix series.

If you’re a Broadway fan, tons of famous actors are headed to NYC including Robert Downey Jr. who’s making his Broadway debut, Idina Menzel, Darren Criss, and more! Check out this article for the full list.

The Stranger Things show, which made its debut on London’s West End, is officially heading to Broadway in the spring of 2025! The show will be operating at the Marquis Theatre and will begin previews on March 28th before opening officially on April 22nd, 2025. This article will give you more info on the show.

In terms of news in the music world, Pitbull has signed a deal with Florida International University and he will be renaming the stadium at the university to Pitbull Stadium. He is the first artist to do this.

The deal is for five years, but after those first five years are up, he will have the opportunity to resign for another five. Each year, he will be able to have 10 of his own events there, 2 VIP box suites in the stadium, the venue will serve Pitbull’s Voli 305 Vodka, he will record an FIU anthem for the school, and he will participate in at least one fundraising event per year and promote the school on social media.

Lastly, the Emmys are coming up on September 15th and Eugene and Dan Levy are in talks to co-host.
